Dublin, according to the Lonely Planet is a “small capital with a huge reputation”
– and having decided to have a look for myself, I would certainly not recommend you visit because:
Dubliners are too friendly, always offering to help with hilarious anecdotes
The surrounding countryside is too beautiful, particularly around Wicklow – even when it’s raining!
The steak at FX Buxley is only the best traditional Irish steakhouse
The hop-on hop-off tour bus drivers make you laugh
– and they sing and recite local poetry whilst driving through the very busy streets
The Guinness Storehouse offer you a free, yes FREE, pint of Guinness
You get lovely views of the Liffey from the Halfpenny Bridge
Your feet are bound to tap when you stroll around Temple Bar, listening to the lilting Irish tunes or the new, still-to-be-discovered groups busking.
There are too many stunning golf courses to play
Finally, don’t visit Dublin if you want to feel miserable – it’s just not worth the hassle!
And, when I asked if we wanted single or return tickets to Dublin, the ticket master replied “Returns? to be sure, I’m please yer coming back!” – and we will!
