Following our post on 17 Travel Tips for Business Trips – Planning…. you are packed and ready to go, here are some tips for you whilst you are Travelling :
Parking your car at the airport? Take a picture with your smartphone so that you can remember where you’ve parked when you return.
Remember to switch off ‘roaming’ on your smartphone, tablet or laptop and only use WIFI hot spots to access your emails or internet. You will save a lot of money if you do this.
At check in – ask what food and drink you can expect on the flight. You may want to supplement this by purchasing something before you board.
Try to avoid alcohol whilst flying and drink plenty of water to help with dehydration.
Moisturising cream is always useful to have handy, particularly for long haul flights – again helps with dehydration.
Fill in any immigration forms as soon as you get them, this will avoid delays when you arrive at your destination.
Have the address of your hotel or destination written down so that you can show it to the cab driver – this will avoid any language differences and ending up at the wrong place.
Try and learn a few local phrases – even if it’s just ‘Please’ & ‘Thank you’ or ‘Where’s the toilet?’ – it’s always appreciated by the locals!
Change your watch and mobile to your destination time – this will avoid the alarm going off too early or too late! Most recent models do this automatically, but it’s worth checking.
If you have traveled long haul, try to stay up on the first day of arrival to acclimatize to local time.
Read up on any Do’s & Don’ts for the destination e.g. always ask before you take photographs of people. This will avoid potential embarrassment and sometimes even worse!
Pick up a local prepaid SIM card for making local calls – and keep your main SIM card in a safe place till you get back home.
As soon as you arrive in the hotel, hang your clothes on a hanger in the bathroom. Then after showering, close the bathroom door to keep the steam in – it will help clear any creases.
Check again that you have turned off Roaming data on your phone and use WIFI where available.
Put your passport and valuables in the hotel safe – but carry with you that copy you made before you left home.
Call your travel insurer (reverse charges) if you need emergency health care. They will know how to best manage your care and this will ensure you aren’t left liable.
IF you lose anything, remember to report it to the local police. Most insurance companies will need this before they consider paying out.
