On arrival at Skellefteå City Airport you will be taken by private transfer to your hotel, Stiftsgården, a former vicarage, located beside the river and situated in peaceful seclusion at the center of Skellefteå ́s oldest cultural area and within walking distance of the lively town.
After lunch you will have your first taste of life in Swedish Lapland with a Husky sleigh ride through the frosty winter forest. The only sound you will hear is the dogs’ paws against the snow and the creaking of the sledge. Magical!
Hot, warming drinks will be served outside over an open fire. You will then return to your hotel for dinner – an idyllic setting by the river in a relaxed environment for a good night’s sleep before tomorrow’s adventure!
The day starts with the Swedish tradition “fika” with coffee and cinnamon buns. Now you will be kitted out with your equipment (overall, shoes, gloves and warm cap/helmet) and then it´s time for the exciting Polaris RZ ice-racing event.
This will be followed by lunch inside a rustic timber lodge over an open fire. Then it’s time for your moose tracking safari on snowmobiles – there will be two people on each snowmobile to take it in turns to drive through the deep snow. The beautiful wilderness around Skellefteå is home to a particularly large and robust moose and if we’re lucky – we’ll get to see the king of the forest!
During the safari you will make a stop in the forest to enjoy the absolute silence and relax with some hot coffee and a sandwich.
After approx 3 hours driving, you will arrive at the wilderness camp in the middle of a roadless land, where you will find the welcome of a crackling fire and a hot drink. The camp will be lit by fire torches and you will be invited into a rustic wooden tee-pee for dinner.
The chef will prepare a typical two course wilderness dinner on the camp fire and after enjoying the authentically northern dishes, you settle in by the fire place for some storytelling. The evening will include a swedish sauna and outdoor hot bath into traditional wooden tubs – take a look at the video clip above!
If you are lucky you will see the northern lights in absolute silence and under a starlit sky.
You can choose to sleep overnight in these warm and cosy Teepees, or you can return to your hotel.
Day 3 will deliver another never-to-be-forgotten experience…
After a short 45 minute transfer to Piteå, you will be welcomed on board a chartered ice-breaker for a tour of the sub-arctic Gulf of Bothnia.
Feel the total power when the engines rush into the massive ice. You will then have an opportunity to stop and walk on ice and, if you have the courage, swim in the dark and cold waters wearing a warm dry suit. Cameras will definitely be required!
Lunch and hot beverages will be served on board, and you will also be invited to visit the captain’s bridge.
Your last night can either be in Skellefteå where you can enjoy the local nightlife or enjoy a group dinner and swap stories of your wonderful experience.
